2015 will mark the 45th year of the Gordon Research Conference on Drug Metabolism. Scientists from industry, academia and regulatory institutions, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows have gathered for the past four decades at this venue to present and discuss cutting-edge drug metabolism science. This long tradition has endeared this conference as one of the perennial favorites in the drug metabolism community. Next year’s conference will focus on key knowledge gaps and improvements in preclinical to clinical translation, ranging from in vitro studies and mechanistic approaches to mathematical modeling, and more broadly how to best combine these tools. Each scientific presentation will include unpublished data. The conference structure will follow an "exploded view", from looking at translational medicine as a whole, to zooming in to specific areas of intense research efforts, where knowledge is rapidly advancing. Topics will include physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling as a predictive tool, the impact of pharmacogenomics and disease state, oxidative and conjugative metabolism, drug transporters, biologics, and revolutionary new and emerging technologies. Attendees are encouraged to submit posters: Vice Chair Kim Brouwer will organize the poster sessions. The Wednesday evening program will feature a mix of six graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, who will deliver oral presentations to be selected from the posters. The collegial nature of the conference offers a wonderful opportunity to learn and discuss unpublished research, share new ideas, and establish new collaborations. With the afternoons free, attendees are encouraged to enjoy the many outdoor recreational activities in the New Hampshire area. We will maintain this conference’s afternoon traditions, including Monday tennis, Tuesday Academia vs. Industry softball game (no experience necessary!), and Wednesday golfing. Lastly, there are always hiking and canoeing outings in the White Mountains. The registration fee includes housing on the wonderful campus of Holderness School and all meals.
