The 2013 Gordon Research Conference on Drug Metabolism will showcase the multidisciplinary nature of the field. Accordingly, the theme of this 43rd Drug Metabolism GRC is "The Many Faces of Drug Metabolism" and the program will cover both the "machinery" (enzymes, transporters) and the consequences of drug metabolism. The attendees of the meeting include scientists from academia, industry and regulatory groups. The presentations will focus on cutting-edge science including unpublished data, exploring the many facets of the field, including sessions on important biochemical processes (e.g., Phase II enzymes and non-CYP oxidases), the role of drug metabolism in etiology of cancer, including bioactivation, and PK/PD relationships. The program will also have a session on new and emerging technologies. To kick-off the meeting, a keynote address will take place on Sunday evening. There will be morning and evening sessions on each day; the morning sessions having four speakers and the evening sessions having three. In keeping with past tradition, the Wednesday evening session will feature six graduate students and/or postdoctoral fellows who will be selected from the many outstanding posters submitted. The poster sessions will be organized by Vice Chair Ken Korzekwa and participants are encouraged to submit poster presentations. With the afternoons free, the attendees are encouraged to enjoy the many outdoor recreational activities in the NH area. Some afternoon activities that are part of the Drug Metabolism GRC tradition will again take place, including tennis or hiking on Monday, the "Industry versus Academia" softball game on Tuesday (no experience required, bring your gloves) and a golf outing on Wednesday. The casual nature of the meeting and collegial atmosphere is highly conducive to informal interactions with ample time to get to know your colleagues, network and perhaps establish collaborations. As always, the registration fee includes housing and meals.
