China's power industry is developing rapidly. In order to balance the frequently changing reactive power of the power system, the reactive power compensation capacitor needs to be switched frequently. The inrush current generated by the capacitor during the input process will have an impact on the power system. From the perspective of analyzing the characteristics of capacitor input inrush current. In this paper, the transient mathematical model of capacitor input is established first, and the system structure of parallel capacitors is modeled, and the equivalent circuit diagram is further obtained. By analyzing its characteristics, the equivalent circuit diagram is simplified, the mathematical expression is established, and the transient mathematical model of capacitor input is obtained. Then, this paper collects and organizes the closing inrush current data of the reactive power compensation capacitor on the low-voltage side of a 500kV transformer in a province in the past 15 years, and obtains the Gaussian probability distribution curve from the data processing and analysis. Finally, the guiding significance of the capacitor input transient mathematical model and the capacitor input overcurrent Gaussian probability distribution curve to the actual production is analyzed and summarized.
