Converter transformer is easily damaged under earthquake, so its seismic performance needs to be studied. In this paper, ± 500kV converter transformer as the research object, using response spectrum method and time history analysis method to study its seismic performance under the earthquake of magnitude9. Firstly, the seismic performance of converter transformer is simulated by response spectrum method, and the stress image of each component of converter transformer is obtained. Then, the Wenchuan earthquake wave is selected for simulation analysis based on time history analysis method and compared with response spectrum method. The research results show that the results of response spectrum method and time-history analysis method are basically the same. Under the seismic excitation of magnitude 9, the existing design of ± 500 kV converter transformer meets the seismic strength requirements.
