The influence of surface roughness of metal electrode on the AC breakdown voltage of an Environmental-Friendly Insulation C5F10O/CO2

As the greenhouse effect of SF6 emission from power industry cannot be ignored, the environmental-friendly insulating gas C5F10O is considered to have the potential to replace SF6 in cubic gas insulated switchgears. To explore the influence of surface roughness of metal conductor on AC breakdown voltage of C5F10O/CO2 gas in equipment, the AC breakdown characteristics of C5F10O/CO2, SF6 and CO2 gases with different volume fractions under different electrode surface roughness was studied, and the synergistic sensitivity of insulation characteristics of C5F10O/CO2 mixture to metal surface roughness and partial pressure ratio was studied. The results show that the AC breakdown voltage of C5F10O/CO2 gas is negatively related to the surface roughness of the electrode. The micro-bumps in the local rough area of the electrode surface will cause local field strength distortion and local ionization coefficient enhancement, and the AC breakdown voltage of all gases will decrease. As the proportion of C5F10O increases, the dielectric strength of the mixed gas is strengthened.
