Electrical Field Analysis of press-pack IGBTs with phase change material added

In order to cope with the continuous improved power level, the press-pack IGBT can improve passive cooling properties by filling the phase change material. The void that stores nitrogen is filled by phase change material, and the purpose of nitrogen is to increase the insulation performance of IGBT, while phase change materials can simultaneously improve insulation performance and passive cooling performance. This paper mainly simulates the press-pack IGBT electric field environment of adding phase change materials, and analyzes its boss or molybdenum surface electric field distribution, and then reveals the potential electrical insulation failure mode in DC rated voltage test conditions: The partially discharged between the PEEK frame and the molybdenum sheet ,and surface discharge of the PEEK frame.
