MoDAT, the Market of Data, is a market where data are reasonable dealt with – opened free, sold for suitable prices, or exchanged/shared after negotiation. Participants on the Market of Data are data driven stakeholders such as data provider and data demander who may play the other way depending on what data are dealt with. In the process of negotiation, participants should discuss about use-scenarios of data until they learn the value of data and, in a good case they feel free to share/exchange data with each other. Thus, new services are expected to emerge with unexpected customers.
MoDAT has been discussed through workshops since ICDM2013 on how to design the Market of Data. In the 1st and the 2nd MoDAT workshop, ideas were born to lead productive actions in business, particularly industrial and educational sectors by means of techniques reusing cross data domains via analogy, web mining, data links etc. In the last MoDAT workshop at ICDM2015, designing the environment for safe and secure human life has been discussed with various supporting tools and methods that have been proposed in terms of semantic analysis, promoting requirements elicitation, estimating contextual relationships and so forth.
With reference of these past workshop outcomes, we should make the Market of Data use of more effective and efficient shared mechanism to function moving forward, i.e., not only within a certain area of interest but also cross data domains, cross functions and cross applications to emerge new opportunities integrating different applications. In future the Market of Data shall be developed as a business infrastructure for various stakeholders. For this purpose, this year we should focus on designing new services in combination with unexpected customers, by using/reusing/integrating data in the Market of Data. We call for anyone interested in this topic and MoDAT.
Data/Text mining and visualization: visualization of links among data, representing comparability or possibility to be combined, or modeling and extracting such links and essential attributes from data.
Communication, education, and innovation: methods to foster owners (potential providers), users, analysts, and scientists of data to externalize use-scenarios of and learn latent values of data.
Knowledge representation: ontologies, semantic analysis, in data engineering for linking datasets from different domains. Idea generation support system would also be discussed.
Shared mechanism: technologies and rulemaking to secure shared mechanism of data exchange in transaction, security, accountability, governance structure etc., for the Market of Data.
Interests in these topics may co-exist in one submission. For example, visualization may be used to foster innovative communications, and to support thoughts of data scientists. In the last item, we love to involve experts of business management, who may know how raw data should be secured as opposed to how data should be disclosed for emerging new opportunities. Such participants will play an important role in the gaming session of Innovators Marketplace® on Data Jackets, where social requirements and technical solutions meet, as an embodiment of innovative market of data.
