The IEEE International Workshop on Urban Mobility & Intelligent Transportation Systems (UMITS 2016) will be held in conjunction with the 21st IEEE International Symposium on Computers and Communications (ISCC 2016). The main goal of the workshop is to present experience reports and state-of-the-art research results in the areas of Urban Mobility and Intelligent Transportation Systems focusing on solutions for the wide adoption of Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Thorough knowledge of urban mobility is crucial, as it enables the development of highly efficient communication strategies, allowing data gathering from several heterogeneous sources into sophisticated decision systems, ensuring the transportation optimization.
Furthermore, the adoption of Intelligent Transportation Systems demands sustainable business plans, only feasible when supported by rigorous network planning. Although network planning is far from trivial, the operation of such complex communication networks and systems tend to consume much more resources than the network setup itself, highlighting the need for state-of-the-art e networks management practices.
UMITS provides a venue for discussing the latest scientific results, and practical case studies on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Vehicular Communications. The workshop is directed at both academic researchers and practicing engineers as it proposes the discussion of the next steps on the ITS research by combining both the state-of-the-art, and practical case studies into the same venue in order to discuss the next steps required from moving the existent technologies from laboratories to the streets.
The topics of interest have been carefully selected for a comprehensive overview on the most significant issues on Planning & Managing ITS. A thorough comprehension of the urban mobility enables the development of more realistic-and-sophisticated models for ITS. More sophisticated ITS Models enable the development of better strategies for Planning & Managing ITS, which may allow new insights for the application of IoT, Clouds, and SDN for ITS. Complementary, Big Data and Social Networking represent a valuable source of management information for ITS.
UMITS counts on a high quality Technical Program Committee composed of 67 researchers from 48 institutions in 23 countries in Europe, Asia, North America and South America, bringing together several ITS leading researchers.
