Big Data is generally defined as a massive volume of structured, semi-structured and/or unstructured data, which may not be effectively managed and processed using traditional database and software techniques. Big Data are of high-volume, high-velocity, and contain a variety of information assets that require new management/processing methods so as to enable enhanced decision making, insight discovery and process optimization in various organisations, industries, and social networks among others.
Big Data is transforming various domains such as science/research, engineering, medicine, healthcare, finance, business, and ultimately society itself. The goal of the International Symposium on Big Data Research and Innovation (BigR&I) is to assess and analyse the current approaches and technologies, as well as identify the major challenges and future perspectives for the management, processing and application of Big Data in various fields. BigR&I symposium provides a forum for exchanging knowledge, ideas and information between researchers, developers and practitioner from academia and industry.
The topics of interest for BigR&I include (but are not limited to):
Techniques and models for Big data
Algorithms and systems for Big data
Machine learning, Data Mining and AI for Big data
NoSQL, NewSQL, Graph and new Databases for Big data
Verification, Validation and Testing Big Data applications
Transaction properties and models for Big Data systems (ACID, CAP, BASE, etc)
Web search and information retrieval
Bioinformatics, multimedia and unstructured data management
Big data analytics and Social Media
Parallel and distributed computing for Big Data
Hardware/software infrastructure for Big Data
Security and privacy for Big Data
