Coalbed Methane (CBM), an unconventional source of natural gas is now considered as an alternative source for augmenting India’s energy resource. India has the fifth largest proven coal reserves in the world and thus holds significant prospects for exploration and exploitation of CBM. The prognosticated CBM resources in the country are about 92 TCF (2600 BCM) in 12 states of India.
Till date, most CBM exploration and production activities in India is pursued by domestic Indian companies. Current CBM production (March 2015) is around 1 MMSCMD which is achieved over a period of 15 years and the target is to produce 6 MMSCMD by 2018.
CBM activity stated in the 1990’s and lately under focused development due to transparent bid system and other terms and conditions, which have encouraged activities. On the other hand the real issues are lack of land acquisition problems, infrastructure development, marketing policies and water handling problems.
This 2nd Edition of CBM Workshop in India will bring together international specialists, national private and state players, service providers and academia to discuss all the relevant issues to help realise the unlocked potential of CBM in India through seven sessions covering case histories, subsurface challenges, drilling and completion technologies, stimulation and production technologies including lift, safety, environment and social, environmental and logistical issues, etc.
This workshop will create the ideal platform for all stakeholders to discuss the technology, marketing, social and regulatory challenges and jointly develop ideas and build networks to overcome those challenges and to tap the unfulfilled potential to monetize the resources.
