Who Should Attend
Geologists and seismic interpreters; some reservoir engineers
Objectives
Provide an applied, “common-sense” approach to recognizing and interpreting structures developed in different stress regimes, and at several scales.
Course Content
This workshop-style classroom course is aimed primarily at geologists and seismic interpreters and addresses basic principles and practical applications for correctly identifying and interpreting a variety of structures in different tectonic settings. The main goal is to improve participants’ interpretation skills by developing an understanding of structural geometry and evolution, and of the application of appropriate structural models in different tectonic settings. Participants should be able to apply first principles to be able to create structural interpretations or “sense-check” existing ones for first-pass viability at regional, prospect and reservoir scales. Fundamental concepts presented in lectures are supplemented with abundant global examples from many petroleum provinces, detailed case studies and numerous short interpretation exercises. Topics include:
DAY 1
DAY 2
DAY 3
Note: All participants need to bring pens and pencils and at least 6 coloured pencils, an eraser and sharpener and a ruler.
