Cloud computing has been rapidly adopted by enterprises worldwide in the recent years. Best practices and lessons learned accumulated over this period and put into practice. However, few systematic works focus on engineering enterprise applications specifically for the cloud, or on re-engineering and migrating existing ones. The EnCASE workshop aims to address this deficit by providing a venue for the discussion on innovative engineering methods and techniques in the context of enterprise computing.
The objectives of the workshop can be summarized as follows: To promote innovative methods and techniques for the engineering of cloud-native applications, that is, specifically built for the cloud. To highlight the open issues and best practices in dealing with cloud-enabling existing applications and systems, i.e. migrating them to the cloud. To allow the identification of future research directions towards engineering a new generation of software systems that optimally use the cloud characteristics (elasticity, utility-based charging, etc.) To provide a forum for discussions between researchers and practitioners on the above subjects.
