The ISMSC was born out of two earlier series of conferences, the International Symposium on Macrocyclic Chemistry (ISMC) and the International Symposium on Supramolecular Chemistry (ISSC).
The ISMC series began in 1977, in Provo, Utah, USA, which was founded by Professors Reed M. Izatt and James J. Christensen. The ISSC series began in 1980, in Warsaw, Poland and was run every other year from then onwards. In 2006, the two conferences joined as a combined conference in Victoria, Canada. Since then, the conference has been held each year under the International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry (ISMSC) heading, in a different nation each time.
The 9th International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry (9-ISMSC) will cover all aspects of macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry, as well as topics in materials and nano sciences. It will be designed to bridge the core areas of supramolecular chemistry and interface with the biological, materials and nano sciences. It will not only include presentations of established speakers, but also offer a platform for students and younger researchers to introduce their works in short oral presentations and posters.
