I would like to welcome delegates to the 39th annual conference of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia. The annual conference provides participants with the opportunity to engage in professionally stimulating activities in a highly supportive environment.

The conference will be held in Adelaide for the first time since 1999, and will be coordinated by colleagues from the University of South Australia and Flinders University, under the theme of ‘Opening Up Mathematics Education Research’.

The theme of this year's conference is highly relevant to practitioners and researchers alike.  Access to "big data" and the increasingly open-access nature of information requires new research tools and affords opportunities to study classroom practices in sophisticated ways.
