Welcome to the 5th CAS-NASA WORKSHOP It is our great pleasure to be the host of the 5th CAS-NASA Workshop on the Use of Earth Observations to address Glacier Change and Associated Hazards in High Mountain Asia, from 15th – 18th May, 2018 in Dujiangyan county, Chengdu, China. I sincerely welcome you to participate in this important event that will focus on the latest research developments on the Earth Observations for the High Mountain Asia (HMA). Changes in glacial cover, snow cover and downstream water flow has been found to be systematic in nature in the HighMountain Asia region. This 5th workshop will build on the work conducted during the previous four workshops. The CAS and NASA teams have identified the main scientific questions to understand these systemic changes through independent complementary activities, identified an extensive list of future remote sensing and insitu observational, research, and modeling requirements, and have planned to develop a toolkit of nested models from short to long time scales during past four meetings. Based on the outcomes, the 5th workshop will continue to discuss the research efforts and ways to move the process forward through achievable and realistic observation goals. It also provides, U.S. and Chinese scientists, the opportunity to update their project teams, discuss data availability and future data needs, and clarify research priorities. As mentioned above, the 5th workshop will be held in Dujiangyan which is a county-level city of Chengdu. It is one of hot destinations for the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. The local organizing committee will ensure a comfortable stay for you. Your participation will be highly appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming you to Dujiangyan, Chengdu, China ! |
