活动简介

Social networking has revolutionised our communication system and life style. Social networking by its wording refers to socializing in a virtual place. Depending upon the website in question, many of the online communities irrespective of the caste, creed and religion share common interests in hobbies, religion, politics, personal relationship and much more. Once a subscriber gets access to such networking site, he/she can begin to socialize and this socialization includes inter alia reading profile page of the members that may lead to possible contact with him/her or deal with business. With the advancement of technology and penetration of net connectivity, people across the world, have been to such social networking. Over the years, online people are more concerned about their security. Legislations are in place to provide safety and security. However, the popularity of such communication channel has transformed the way we understand and experience crime and victimisation. It has created new concerns in relation to the crimes itself and victimisation is not uncommon. The cyber laws, though prevalent in most of the countries in the world, it has not been able to arrest the magnitude of the crimes. The magnitude of the problem can be understood from the fact that around 85% of the internet initiated crime involves social networking sites through fraud, abuse, identity theft, online scam and data mining etc.,.

As regards social relationship, research studies found that people with fewer social relationships die earlier on average than those with more social relationships. Yet, with the use of social networking, there are concerns many people appear to be substituting virtual, online connections for real life, social relationships. A 2010 study suggests that social networking would severely affect social relations by 2020. It is also reported that people have been misutilising more and more the virtual platform and causing more harm to online social relations. This trend calls for discussion and analysis of the impact of online relationship with family, culture and society.

It is not all bad news. Social networking has created new opportunities for criminal justice agencies to solve crimes, among other things. Thus, like many other advancements in communication technology, social media has a good, a bad and an ugly side when it comes to its relationship with criminal justice and the law. These issues are timely, thought provoking and need deliberation at international intellectual forum (s) like INFOSEC 2017. Research papers are invited in all areas concerning social networking and cyber security. The specific issues identified for discussion, but not limited to, are impact of online relationships, criminality and legal protection.
