Big Data has become a new source of opportunity in terms of Semantic Computing. Unlike traditional data sources, Big Data applications present their own unique challenges. In order to appropriately harness the utility of open source frameworks including Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark, programming paradigms such as Map-Reduce and design patterns associated with functional programming need to be supported. Through these advances, Big Data has become ubiquitous across all areas of research allowing for new applications that were not possible earlier.
The Tutorial and Workshop on Semantic Computing in Big Data (TWSCBD 2017) consists of a half-day tutorial and a half-day workshop to be held in conjunction with the 11th IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing (ICSC2017) on Jan 30, 2017. The tutorial will specifically step each student though the installation, setup and implementation of Apache Hadoop and Spark platforms on Amazon Web Services. The tutorial will include a detailed examination of the Spark Distributed Processing platform with examples leveraging the Scala programming language. Machine Learning techniques will also be covered utilizing the ML library on the Scala/Spark platform. Overall architecture design will also be explored as well as the future direction of the Big Data software suite. The workshop will consist of presentations of invited papers and peer-reviewed papers.
Submissions are sought for papers in, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Theoretical Models for Semantics in Big Data
New Computational Models for Semantics in Big Data
Data Standards for Semantics in Big Data
Programming Standards and Models/Frameworks for Semantics in Big Data
Big Data Analytics in Semantic Computing
Big Data deployments in Semantic Computing
