We are pleased to announce that 2017 China Meeting of the Econometric Society, organized jointly by the Econometric Society and Economics and Management School, Wuhan University (EMS-WHU), will be held on June 9-11, 2017 at Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. 

The objective of China Meeting of the Econometric Society is to promote academic exchanges between scholars in the Greater China region and the West. The inaugural meeting was held in Peking University in 2013, the next two meetings were held in Xiamen University (2014) and in the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (2016). 

With a 3,500-year-long history and a population of over 10 million people, Wuhan is one of the most ancient and civilized metropolitan cities in China which ranks in 3rd place in China in its overall strength of education and research of science and technology. It lies at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han River. Within 4-5 hours by hi-speed train from Wuhan, one can reach most of the major cities and about 80% of the total population in China. In September 2015, Wuhan opened a new chapter as it had just been selected by the central government as a pilot city to carry out trials on innovation and reform to spur innovation and economic growth for the future. 

Wuhan is home to hundreds of lakes of various sizes.  East Lake, covering an area of 88 square kilometers, is China’s biggest downtown lake. It features rich cultural heritage and beautiful scenery and is a must-see. 

EMS-WHU, accredited by EQUIS and AMBA, is one of the largest schools of its kind in China. Wuhan University dates back to 1893 when “Ziqiang (Self-Reliance) Institute” was founded with a division of business, which makes it the earliest business education institution in China. Currently, EMS-WHU has more than 13,000 students and 300 core faculty members, offers 87 degree programs (Bachelors, Academic Masters, Professional Masters, MBA/EMBA and Doctoral Programs). 

As Wuhan University is a research-oriented institution, the School has also been very much research-focused with a long history of high-quality research, especially in Theoretical Economics. It is also a pioneer in China in the research on Development Economics and its Center for Economic Development Research is a national key research base. In a most recent national assessment on research in 2013 organized by Chinese Ministry of Education, the School’s research in Theoretical Economics is ranked 3rd nationally, and its business research ranked 12th.
