The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a strong trend in the technological advancement driving innovation in both traditional and nontraditional applications.
As the latest Gartner, Inc. forecasts show, more than 6 billion things will be connected and in use worldwide in 2016, and will reach more than 20 billion by 2020. IoT has a major impact not only on the consumers’ lives, but also on industry by reducing production costs, shaping new business models and increasing the number of IT-centric processes.
The main driver of Internet of Things is based on the large palette of services which connect things from simpler sensors and actuators to most complex equipments to IT systems allowing data acquisition, communication, processing and mining at a level it was unpractical until now and with results that could not been foreseen a few years ago. Total spending on these services will account in 2016 more than $235 billion.
This workshop aims to identify the latest tendencies guiding IoT development and implementation in applications covering many different areas such as energy, healthcare, transportation, automotive, industry and agriculture.
The workshop is intended to fostering the discussion on IoT related issues, in particular focusing on technical enablers for the IoTs, such as practical architectures, software and hardware, with a strong emphasis on showcases and demonstrations of real use cases.
