The aim of the workshop is to bring together scientists, engineers, manufacturers and users from all over the world to discuss common theoretical and practical problems related to engineered equipment for rehabilitation which may include hybrid systems FES-exoskeletons, Brain-Computer Interfaces etc. An Electroencephalogram based Brain-Computer-Interface (BCI) provides a new communication channel between the human brain and a computer. Patients who suffer from severe motor impairments (late stage of Amyothrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), severe cerebral palsy, head trauma and spinal injuries) may use such a BCI system as an alternative form of communication by mental activity. In fact, changes of brain activity induced by a mental task are detected/classified. The BCI system transforms these changes into a control signal which can be used for communication or control of external devices.
