The 7th International Conference of Asian Concrete Federation (ACF 2016) will build upon success of six previous ACF conferences organized since 2004. The conference aims to share and build on practical sustainable concrete development.
Concrete has been used as a building material in construction for many years and becomes the most popular building material in the world. It is estimated that roughly 35 billion tonnes of concrete are manufactured globally each year and the consumption of concrete likely keeps increasing annually. Ordinary concrete contains approximately 12% cement, 80% aggregate by mass and 8% mixing water. This means that approximately 4.2 billion tonnes of cement, 28 billion tonnes of sand and rock, and 2.8 billion tonnes of mixing water are annually used worldwide.
Actually, the figures on world production of cement in the recent five years reflect the increasing trend of concrete production. The world production of cement was 3,300 million tones in 2010. Over the couple of years 2011 and 2012, global consumption rose to 3,585 million tonnes in 2011 and 3,736 million tonnes in 2012. Over the years 2013 and 2014, global consumption continued to rise up to 4,000 million tonnes in 2013 and then 4,300 million tonnes in 2014. Asian countries apparently contribute a large volume of cement production, including approximately 70 million tonnes per year in Vietnam.
The demand of more durable and sustainable concrete structures for now and the future is therefore really essential for the development of global economy and society. The ACF2016 international conference is a platform for concrete professional community to share updated concrete technologies, innovations, case studies and research development as well as the importance of the production and use of concrete in a more sustainable way with scientists, researchers, government officials, regulation makers, global leaders, project owners, constructors and others.
Four internationally well-known speakers have confirmed to attend ACF2016 conference and to deliver their keynote lectures. They are Professor Mark Alexander (Immediate Past President of RILEM); Professor Hugo Corres (Deputy President of FIB); Professor Jim Wight (Past President of ACI) and Professor Han Manyop (President of ACF). Deputy Minister of Construction in Vietnam, Dr Le Quang Hung (President of Vietnam Concrete Association) will be present at the conference and deliver a speech.
The ACF 2016 is organized by Vietnam Concrete Association and Asian Concrete Federation, under the auspices of Vietnam Ministry of Construction. The conference organizing committee warmly welcomes all of you to Hanoi to join our event.
To help unravel the variety of issues connected to the main focus of ACF2016, the conference welcomes contributions covering any of the following or related themes:
1. Concrete materials and technologies
2. Admixtures for concrete
3. Concrete structures
4. Cracks in concrete structures
5. Maintenance, monitoring, repair and strengthening
