The Rotorcraft group will be holding this conference on 6th -7th July 2016 and it will be the second in the series of 'Automation & Offshore Operations' conferences held by the group.
The increased use of automated systems in complex rotorcraft operations was explored by the RAeS in the Automation: Technology Friend or Foe Conference in July 2014.
This conference raised many issues, notably amongst which were the present standard of training for aircrew, human factors involved in automated operations and the complexity of cockpit displays. The issues were summarised and featured in an article by Tim Rolfe in Aerospace. The time is ripe to examine what progress has been made in answering these questions focusing especially at short, medium and long term solutions. Accident reports following a number of recent high profile accidents have highlighted additional areas of concern that, whilst not necessarily automation issues in their own right, are connected. Among these are issues with the use of GNSS approaches onshore, together with operational and procedural matters.
