The Fourth International Workshop on Computational Inverse Problems and Applications is co-hosted by Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shandong University of Technology (SDUT). The conference site will be in the main campus of Shandong University of Technology, Zibo, Shandong Province, China. The background of this series of conferences can be casted back to 2008. The first conference (July 21-26, 2008) and the second conference (July 11-15, 2010) were held in Beijing, and the third conference (July 8-12, 2013), was held in Nanchang, organized by Dr. Yanfei Wang, Dr. Changchun Yang, Dr. Zewen Wang and Dr. Yagola. More than 30 professors from the United States, Austria, Russia, India, and More than 100 domestic scholars from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Southeast University, Lanzhou University, Hebei University, Hunan University, East China Institute of Technology, Shandong University of Technology and other units participated in the three conferences. Delegates carried out extensive exchanges and exploration around the geophysical inversion problem, regularization techniques, optimization methods, as well as the inverse problem in other interdisciplinary science. Fruitful achievements of the conferences were published in 2010 and 2012, respectively. The conferences achieved extensive and positive impaction in Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences. The inverse problem and the high-performance scientific computing are frontier research fields in the field of international Mathematics and Applied Sciences. With the development of applied and computational mathematics, informational science and earth science, etc, the research field of mathematical physics inverse problems has become a hotspot direction of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This conference will cover issues on Numerical Algorithms for Large Scale Ill-posed Problems, Regularization Methods for Inverse Problems, High-performance Optimizations and Applications in Related Fields. This conference is also a project of international cooperation between Russia and China. The conference scale is controlled in about 80 people. Hope that more students and scholars are attracted to be engaged in inverse problems and its applications by this conference.
