The First IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on the Management of the Internet of Things and Fog Computing (ManFIoT) will be held in conjunction with the IFIP/IEEE Network Operations and Management Symposium in Istanbul Turkey, April 29, 2016. The workshop is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society and is endorsed by the Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
The Internet of Things (IoT) represents the next wave of computing, where we not only connect end-user devices, but also billions of physical objects embedded with sensors, actuators, and support for network connectivity. These “things” typically provide data or are a point of control. It is projected that by 2020 the number of “things” will be 50 billion. To realize the full potential of IoT requires that significant challenges be addressed. The main goal of this workshop is to present original research and experience reports that address important topics that include, but are not limited to efficient management of sensors and actuators, fog computing, providing quality metrics and estimation schemes for sensor data, ensuring data privacy, and programming models.
ManFIoT will combine original full paper presentations with a motivating keynote, quick hot topic presentations and a panel discussion. Furthermore, the workshop attendees will be stimulated to participate in interesting discussions amongst the attendees, such that all participants can take home lots of ideas for consideration in their ongoing research projects or start new research projects to address these challenging topics. To this end, short papers describing late-breaking advances and work-in-progress reports from ongoing research are also welcome.
