On behalf of the Chinese Comparative Education Society, warm greetings from China! It is our great honor to announce that the XVI World Congress of Comparative Education Societies will be held from 22nd August, 2016 to 26th August, 2016, in Beijing, China. The theme of the Congress is Dialectics of Education: Comparative Perspectives. This congress will offer the opportunity for presentations of cutting-edge research addressing theoretical, empirical, and practical problems in education. It will address the concerns and interests of various stakeholders (educational researchers, policymakers, teachers, students, parents, and others) and will offer dynamic and in-depth discussion to help interested parties grasp diverse sides of complex issues. Presentations might consider the dialectics of education at different stages or in various settings, e.g., preschool, primary, secondary, higher, adult, inclusive, special, vocational, teacher, or distance. They might deal with the dialectics of education in terms of educational finance, leadership and management, policy and planning, and others. Those in attendance can also explore dialectics of education from different disciplinary and theoretical perspectives, such as philosophy, sociology, culture, feminism, phenomenology, ethnography, semiology or any other frameworks of interest. In terms of methodology, research might adhere to qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods frameworks. Finally, research presented can place emphasis on a particular country or region or adopt an international or comparative approach. The Congress will be held in Beijing, one of the most visited cities in the world. Hundreds of attractions are waiting to be explored! The city boasts countless historical sites, museums, parks and gardens. The sites of the 2008 Olympic are magnets for international and domestic tourists alike. In addition to Beijing’s pleasant atmosphere and spellbinding scenery, the appeal of well-established and reasonably-priced restaurants offering all manner of local, national, and international delicacies will make your trip a memorable one. From an educational perspective, Beijing represents the diversity and complexity of the Chinese education system in a single city. It is home to 178 institutions of higher educational, 804 junior/senior high schools, 1160 primary schools, and 1253 kindergartens, as well as dozens of national academies and research institutes. Included in its universities are a number of nationally and internationally prestigious institutions: Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Normal University. Beijing Normal University will provide the setting for the Congress. China’s most significant university specializing in education and education research, it is located in central Beijing in close proximity to hotels offering a range of prices. Most are within walking distance and myriad transportation options (reasonably-priced taxis, buses, and subway) link the university in all directions to other areas of interest.
