The Geneva 2015 conference will showcase the significant impact that Structural Engineers have on our society today. Being chiefly responsible for the built environment, Structural Engineering is a central solution provider with interfaces to many other disciplines and dominant in its role and responsibility. Building upon the technical expertise and authority of IABSE as the prime international organisation of Structural Engineers, the conference will explore the contributions that Structural Engineering can make to solving major problems of today and the future. The conference programme is being developed by the Scientific Committee on the basis of the structure proposed by the Core Group. The Scientific Committee is chaired by Prof. Eugen Brühwiler, Switzerland, and vice-chaired by Dr. Christian Cremona, France, current Chair of the Technical Committee of IABSE. With Geneva being the heart of numerous international and humanitarian associations there could not be a better place to discuss these global challenges. Four Global Themes are being proposed to form central pillars of the technical programme. These themes will be introduced by high-level visionary keynote speakers and then be explored by different style sessions in order to best address the complex issues and engage with the wider engineering community and key decision makers. Besides the Global Themes, the conference programme will feature traditional technical sessions with a wide scope as well as a diverse mixture of further session formats such as debates and workshops in order to accommodate different content and intent and thus creating a stimulating and participative event. The sessions are designed to catalyse the discussions and maximise the output of the conference, potentially leading to new IABSE activities well beyond the Geneva conference. The conference structure will be developed and the content be procured through a multi-phased and transparent submission process using an online contribution system.
