Technology has been essential for the advancement in cardiology diagnostic and treatment since the first accurate recording of the electrocardiogram and its development as a clinical tool in 1895, also the year of the discovery of X-rays by W.K.Röntgen, followed by ultrasound application for medical diagnosis by Dussik in 1941, and many other technologies. In the XXI century significant advances continue to be witnessed even more frequently and it seems evident that there is a very high potential of improving healthcare quality by combining medical knowledge in the area of cardiology with engineering technologies, especially those derived from communications, electronics and informatics. This congress intends to be a meeting point of both academics and practitioners, in order to promote the exchange ideas and developed synergies. Authors are invited to submit reports on their research work that highlight new advancements on the use of cardiac technologies either in general or regarding a particular case or application. New ideas on how to approach cardiac monitoring, diagnosis and treatment challenges and issues, using electronics, telecommunications or informatics, will arise from the congress. Papers describing case studies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are encouraged. Papers should describe original work in any of the areas listed below. Accepted complete papers, presented at the congress by one of the authors, will be published in the Proceedings of Cardiotechnix, with ISBN, both on paper and digital support. All presented papers will be indexed and included in the SCITEPRESS digital library for increased visibility. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions.
