It is our pleasure to announce that the 17th Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, EPE’15-ECCE Europe, will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from the 8th to 10th September 2015. The conference follows previous successful conferences held in major university cities across Europe since 1985: Brussels, Grenoble, Aachen, Florence, Brighton, Seville, Trondheim, Lausanne, Graz, Toulouse, Dresden, Aalborg, Barcelona, Birmingham, Lille and Lappeenranta. Geneva is an ideally located city in the centre of Europe, easily reachable by air, rail or road. It is close to both the Swiss and French Alps and lies at the end of the beautiful Lake Léman. Besides its exceptional international nature, due to the numerous humanitarian and political organizations, Geneva is world famous for particle physics. The year 2012 was marked by one of the most significant events in this field: the experimental discovery of the Higgs Boson at CERN. Subsequently, the Nobel Prize in Physics 2013 was awarded jointly to François Englert and Peter W. Higgs. Their theoretical discovery of a mechanism for the origin of mass of subatomic particles was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The EPE’15 ECCE Europe conference will be hosted by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Founded in 1954, laboratory sits astride the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva. It was one of Europe's first joint ventures and now has 21 member states. At CERN, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. Protons and lead ions are collided at close to the speed of light, giving the physicists clues about how the particles interact and providing insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Particle physicists and their accelerators have for decades required the design, development, construction, control and operation of high precision power converters. The conference is organized in collaboration with the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (EPFL), the prestigious Technical University located beside the Lake Léman. EPFL’s recent progress within the international rankings involves not only its School of Engineering, but also the Schools of Life Sciences and Computer and Communication Sciences, as well as Basic Sciences. Power Electronics is very present in Europe, with advanced research, successful industrial companies, and many academic laboratories in different countries. Since 1985, the EPE Conference has grown to become the largest in its field, regularly attracting the foremost technical contributors from industry and research centres worldwide. In 2011, the EPE Association joined the IEEE-PELS society to organize the EPE-ECCE Europe Congress. One purpose of this Conference is to enable the presentation and discussion of developments in the field of Power Electronics, with attendees coming from all over the world. A characteristic trend from previous EPE ECCE Europe conferences has been an increasingly large industrial participation, which allows enhanced exchanges between academics and people from industry. Geneva offers a wide variety of hotels. A large number of rooms in various categories at different negotiated rates have been blocked for the time of the conference.
