活动简介

The 2015 GRC on Oxidative Stress and Disease: "The Redox Biology of Age-Related Disease", is focused on examining how changes in redox signaling trigger and participate in age-related diseases. The emerging role of redox signaling dyshomeostasis is gaining support in the fields of aging and age-related disease (i.e., diabetes, ocular dysfunction, stroke) and challenges the current paradigm that damage by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species to macromolecules is the primary pathologic event that drives the aging phenotype. Since redox signaling is an important part of normal physiology, strategies must be identified that permit pathological redox signaling to be reduced while maintaining or augmenting physiological redox signals. The conference emphasis will be on the explosive new developments in the field in terms of central principles of redox biology, including redox-based mechanisms of cell signaling; contributions of redox enzymes NADPH oxidase and nitric oxide synthase, and the newly described jumanji demethylases, HIF prolyl hydroxylases and MICAL proteins; the pathologic consequences of redox imbalance; cutting-edge technology that permits improved resolution of cellular redox events; and novel redox-targeted therapeutics for treating disease. The program draws from a diverse field of well-established and "emerging" scientists and clinicians from across the globe who are at the forefront of their field. The collegial atmosphere, with extended discussion during the program as well as ample opportunities for more casual interactions during poster session, meals, and evening social times, will promote "cross-pollination" of ideas among researchers in different disciplines. Young investigators will have the opportunity to present their work in poster format, with some poster presenters selected for short talks that are integrated into the scientific program.
