Over the last three decades, great progress has been achieved in the development of discontinuum-based numerical methods such as the key block theory, the distinct element method (DEM), the discontinuous deformation analysis (DDA), and the manifold numerical method (NMM). Nowadays, the discontinuous deformation analysis approaches are providing promising solutions for rock engineering problems and a new era of numerical modeling in rock mechanics and rock engineering is coming. Since the first conference in 1995, this global academic event, namely the International Conference on Analysis of Discontinuous Deformation (ICADD), has held eleven times and the latest one ICADD-11 in Fukuoka, Japan received overwhelming response. Herein, we are proud to announce the ICADD-12 which will be held in 2015 in Wuhan, China. ICADD-12 continuously aims to exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences on various discontinuous deformation analysis methods, and to welcome new advances and developments of discontinuum-based numerical methods in rock mechanics and rock engineering. ICADD-12 will be a milestone event to review the progress in the past 30 years since 1995 and look forward to the future development of the discontinuous deformation analysis methods. We would like to invite colleagues in the numerical modeling and rock mechanics community to join this upcoming great event, to celebrate and to anticipate the progress of discontinuous numerical methods.

ICADD-12 is to summarize the progress of discontinuous deformation analysis methods in the past decades and to advance toward the future development and application of these in geomechanics and geoengineering. The theme ofICADD-12 will cover a wide scope of discontinuous deformation analysis methods from algorithms, mechanics, to modelling techniques and applications, including but not limited to the following topics: · Key Block Theory and Engineering Applications Ÿ· Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA) Method · Numerical Manifold Method (NMM) Ÿ· Distinct/Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Meshless Method Ÿ· Hybrid of Discontinuum and Continuum Methods Ÿ· Experiment and Measurement of Discontinuous Deformation Ÿ· Contact Algorithms and Joint Contact Modelling Ÿ· Wave Propagation in Rock Joints and Jointed Rock Masses Ÿ· Deformation Analysis of Heterogeneous Materials Ÿ· Discontinuous Modelling in Multi-scale and Multi-physics Ÿ· Other Advanced Analytical and Numerical Methods in Rock Engineering Ÿ· Discontinuities in High Slopes of Hydraulic Projects Ÿ· Case Studies of Rock Engineering Projects
