Desire for a low carbon future and connected digital economy is leading to the trend of localized renewable energy generation at household and enterprise level. It is envisaged that the consumers of electrical energy will play a more active dual role in the future energy marketplace as the producers of energy as well. Through a reliable trading mechanism and dependable network, consumers will be able to trade their own excess renewable energy with each other in a Peer-to-Peer fashion, thus becoming energy producers as well as consumers, i.e., prosumers. There are a number of open scientific issues to be tackled in the management and control of a hybrid energy system comprising heterogeneous networks of various wireless and wired technologies, end-user preferences and life-choices to seamlessly exchange information, trade energy and intelligently reshape their energy use patterns. This Symposium is a new addition to the IEEE GlobalSIP’14 and will bring together academic and industrial researchers from SIP area to identify and discuss technical challenges and recent results related to SIP for EXIT in smart-grid infrastructure and future wireless network.
