This workshop is intended to bring together scholars, scientists, business people, and students to understand the impact, the challenges, as well as propose some solutions in Big Data/Analytics and Cybersecurity. The era of big data is upon us. Increasingly, large volumes of data are being generated in many domains. Every service, device and system gnerates an ever-changing stream of information in social media, business and scientific applications. These phenomena are accelerating over time with even richer, and more heterogeneous information. Through sophisticated analytics, there is potential for making sense of the volume, diversity, complexity, uncertainty of this data that is being generated at a fast pace. This offers the opportunity to making tremendous advances in many scientific disciplines, improving competitivity of enterprises, and addressing major social and medical problems. Big Data, however, poses many new challenging research problems, and require new perspectives on old ones. In this environment, the issue of cybersecurity is exacerbated. Corporations, agencies, national infrastructures, and individuals are increasingly victims of cyber-attacks. It has been estimated that Internet “malware” (worms, spyware, and the like) cost businesses hundreds billions of dollars, despite the rollouts of significant Internet security software. Clearly, current techniques for identifying and containing network attacks have significant limitations. They are not sufficiently flexible to handle the complexity, the dynamic nature and the epidemic behavior of cyber-attacks. We call for papers that discuss the challenges in Big Data/Analytics and Cybersecurity, propose some approaches, and engage in a debate on the research directions. We solicit submission of papers on original research and feedback from experiments that focus on themes related to Big Data/Analytics and Cybersecurity.
