Smart embedded systems are becoming more and more ubiquitous in our daily lives, such as mobile devices, healthcare, automotive, public safety and security. Compared to classical embedded systems, these systems are distinctive with their smartness, i.e., the ability to intact with human being or the surrounding physical environment based on the previous experience. Therefore, it becomes critical to properly revisit and co-optimize hardware/software architectures, learning methods and specific applications to adapt with the emerging smart embedded systems, especially when these systems are adopted in critical environments or when integrating with emerging technologies. To address such challenges, the goal of SES 2014 is to provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange their new ideas, novel results, work in progress and experience on all aspects of smart embedded systems.
