活动简介

LIOS Technology is the global leader in the development and supply of state-of-the-art Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry based Distributed Temperature Sensing monitoring systems. Building on an innovative development in the field of fiber optic sensor engineering, LIOS provides customized solutions in various markets for modern asset management and global condition monitoring. LIOS EN.SURE monitoring system enables utilities to locate precisely and before failure hot spots along a transmission line, to optimize in a dynamic way power cable load and to ensure reliable power supply. With more than 3,000 installations worldwide, LIOS sets the benchmark in reliability (MTBF > 33-years) and track record in the Utility transmission & distribution power cable monitoring industry. Subcommittee A - Cable Construction and Design Copper or Aluminum, that抯 the question (freely rendered from Shakespeare), By Wim Boone, KEMA, now part of DNV GL Abstract: A cable conductor usually consist of copper or aluminum. Next to price differences, each material has positive and negative characteristics that affect their use in various applications. Originally copper was the only conductor material used, later aluminium was introduced as a conductor material as well. Some utilities are in favour of copper, some utilities are increasingly using aluminium. Certain properties of aluminium are favourable above copper for certain applications. These applications require for instance: a lighter system in aircraft applications where power to weight ratios are critical. By request of the European Copper Institute (ECI), DNV KEMA, now part of DNV GL was asked to investigate on what grounds distribution utilities decide to use copper or aluminium conductors in LV and MV cable networks. A questionnaire was prepared that was sent to about 100 distribution utilities in 25 countries, to obtain accurate and reliable written information. The questionnaire consisted of three parts, of which only the third part on the decision model how to select copper or aluminium will be dealt with in this paper. After giving summarized information on the typical properties of copper and aluminium conductors and information on failure mechanisms related to conductor material, the results of the questionnaire are given together with evaluation and conclusions. Condition of Shielded 5 kV Pink EPR Insulated Cable after 25 Years of Service, Bogdan Fryszczyn, CTL This year is the 40-year anniversary, in the US market, of the introduction of pink EPR insulated MV cables. This type of cable normally delivers reliable service, but as other cable insulation, it is not immune to aging. Severe reduction of the cable抯 ac strength is exemplified by the investigation of a cable removed from a field installation after 25 years of service. The reason for this yet un‑failed cable抯 removal was the high value of 0.1 Hz dissipation factor on one of the three 2500 ft long cable phases. Examination of breakdown channels revealed the cause of insulation degradation.
