The 8th International Conference on Physics and Applications of Spin Phenomena in Solids (PASPS VIII) will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Washington D.C., USA, from July 28 to 31, 2014. This is the eighth in succession of successful biennial international congresses that have been held in Sendai, Japan (2000, 2006), Würzburg, Germany (2002), Santa Barbara, California, USA (2004), Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil (2008), Tokyo, Japan (2010), and Eindhoven, the Netherlands (2012). The scope of PASPS VIII has been expanded from its original focus on semiconductors and will include advances in the fundamental understanding of spin-related physics in semiconductors, metals, insulators, and organics, with particular interest in meeting the future challenges for spintronics technologies. To introduce young scientists to the latest exciting advances in the field, the meeting will begin with pedagogical tutorials aimed at graduate students and postdocs. The conference venue, near Washington, D.C., is a location with easy travel connections and ready access to the heart of the nation’s historic capital. We look forward to attracting an excellent caliber of invited speakers, school lecturers, and contributed abstracts. PASPS VIII is arranged as a satellite conference of ICPS 2014, the 32nd International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors, to be held in Austin, Texas, from August 10 to 15, 2014.
