活动简介
The GRC on NOX Family NADPH Oxidases features cutting-edge unpublished work presented by international experts across the NOX field, and will be preceded for the second time by a NOX Gordon Research Seminar for research trainees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. NOX family proteins are now known to be major sources of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in most mammalian cell types as well as in diverse species such as fish and plants. They are highly regulated enzymes that in recent years have been implicated in an extremely wide array of physiological and pathophysiological processes. The science in the field is moving dramatically fast with exciting advances in many areas, from basic biochemistry of the enzymes, dissection of molecular signalling events and cell biology, to the delineation of NOX isoform-specific functions in new in vivo models, human studies and therapeutic development. The 2-yearly NOX GRC is firmly established as the premier forum for the presentation and discussion of the latest advances in the field in a highly collegiate, collaborative and informal atmosphere. The programme for the 2014 NOX GRC has been developed around the theme "From NOX Mechanisms to Disease". Session topics include NOX biochemistry and structure, a focus on NOX-dependent signalling, non-mammalian NOXs, immune functions of NOXs, and disease-oriented translational topics such as cancer, cardiovascular and central nervous disease. We expect exciting, timely and paradigm-challenging presentations in this accelerating field, with ample time for vigorous discussion after each talk. Poster sessions will be ideal opportunities for more prolonged discussion and the active involvement of earlier career investigators. The programme also allows for the inclusion of novel late-breaking science. Attracting a diverse group of male and female participants is a major priority for the meeting. The accompanying GRS programme features speakers selected from among trainee abstracts, as well as career development components and mentoring by senior scientists. Do not miss these NOX meetings! The absolute deadline for abstract submissions is 15th April but earlier submission is encouraged. Drs Robert Clark and William Nauseef will lead a young investigator competition at the 2014 NOX GRC, with an award given to the presenter of an abstract selected for oral presentation and judged to be outstanding.
