Welcome to the official IOR 2014 website. The Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Mid-Continent Section will host the Nineteenth Symposium on Improved Oil Recovery in Tulsa, Oklahoma from April 12th through 16th, 2014. This symposium series, which began in 1978, continues its long history as the Society of Petroleum Engineers premier meeting on improved oil recovery. The theme of the 2014 Symposium is “Explore the Possibilities.” This reflects the significant technological developments we are seeing in all aspects of traditional IOR applications. Recently, we are also experiencing IOR contribution in the development of unconventional oil reservoirs. Over the last 40 years, the number of IOR projects and the associated incremental oil recovery has also increased. This development has taken place in spite of technological risk, political risk, and most importantly price risk. This clearly demonstrates that the IOR practitioners are willing to take the long term view and will continue to seek new fields and new technologies to maximize recoverable oil. As world-wide demand for oil grows and new discoveries become more challenging, technically and economically, the leading edge IOR technologies presented at this conference will be increasingly applied around the globe. As evidence of the international interest in new developments in IOR and unconventional oil, there were delegates from 35 countries attending and presenting papers at the 2012 SPE IOR Symposium. The global potential is enormous and the technologies presented at this conference will help unlock world-wide reserves. I invite you to actively participate in the conference, either by submitting a paper proposal, sponsoring an event, exhibiting your services or products, attending the conference. Whatever your role or interest—producer, vendor, faculty member, student, policy maker, regulator, investment analyst, or other interested party—you can gain insights and knowledge that can be applied immediately. Key elements of the Symposium include the technical sessions, the plenary session, a selection of technical short courses, and the exhibit hall.
