The 6th International Conference on Public Administration in the 21st Century: Opportunities and Challenges, jointly hosted by the Center for Chinese Public Administration Research at Sun Yat-sen University, Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region, University of Macau and Macau Foundation, will be held in Macau from October 16-17, 2014. As an important event for the global academia of public administration, the conference aims to:
· organize prompt and qualified dialogues focusing on major issues of public governance in the post-crisis era;
· invite both domestic and international scholars to discuss the difficulties and challenges of public governance in the post-crisis era and explore the approaches for improving public governance;
· strengthen academic exchanges and collaborations among domestic and overseas scholars and promote the development of public governance research in the post-crisis era;
· enrich the studies of Macau as an international city and attract more public administration practitioners and researchers to study Macau.
The outbreak of the global financial crisis in 2008 has brought unprecedented challenges to governments around the world. The economic crisis prompts us to reconsider the relationship between the government and market. Many governing instruments, such as deregulation and privatization, which were trusted by many developed counties and treated as panacea by many developing countries, began to gain suspicion and criticism after the crisis. With a special theme of “Governance in the Post-Crisis Era”, the conference will address major issues in a broader perspective transcending the traditional scope of public administration. We look forward to receiving papers from scholars and researchers who are concerned about new challenges in public administration.
