It is a great privilege and pleasure to welcome you to the 17th ICIN conference. This year we invite you to share knowledge and ideas for unlocking value from the networks. The core of the conference will feature presentations on how to transform Telcos’ networks to make them smarter and how to make smarter things on top of these networks. As usual, the conference will be an opportunity to explore new and emerging technology trends in the Telecom industry and discuss their impact on business models and customer experience. Cloud, Virtualisation, WebRTC, and Content Centric Networking are some of the key technologies that will be addressed through a set of presentations carefully selected by the members of our technical programme committee. The conference will be hosted in Telecom Italia’s Future Centre, a former convent in Venice. In reference to this unusual location, we will start the conference with a presentation of Telecom Italia activities on leveraging cultural heritage through ICTs, which involves creating a big data environment through digitalization of a large mass of historical documents and pictures. The opening session will continue with three distinguished keynote speakers who will set the scene for the rest of the conference with thought provoking talks on strategies to create new network services, latest trends in system architecture evolution and new security challenges facing cloud and mobile expansion. The conference event also features two tutorials on WebRTC and Network Functions Virtualisation. Whatever your level of familiarity with these topics, I hope these tutorials will provide you with useful information to obtain maximum benefit from the subsequent presentations.
