We often hear that Big Data is still far from being achieved and has not lived up to all its promises. Do we have now to trust Big Data? In fact the reasons of this issue seem now identified by the experts: the skills are still too rare; the technology is poorly understood by the users; a too restrictive number of data is directly and properly valuable; the Return On Investment and the profitability still have not been proven; and lastly there is an increasingly ample supply.
Aware of this situation, the main players will surely draw Big Data into a new age, the coming stage of maturity: a Big Data where modelling will make it more and more in touch with the users’ realities; a Big Data where database storage structures should be suitable for a goal which would not be strictly driven by the idea to supply a better accuracy at all cost; a Big Data introducing high performance data management tools to identify the real sources of value creation in the organizations.
Would this new age also be an entirely different story? Which data are we exactly talking about? Will we now believe what the data say or should we not model our intuition, our experience and the way our emotions lead our behaviour? It’s Companies that should endeavour to move forward along these lines.
This event conceived as a 360° intrusive Think Tank about the world of Big Data is to encourage thinking outside of the box by merging researchers’ perspectives and field experiences. But there is only one watchword: look beyond appearances! So starting with its first edition the COPSEE deliberately adopted a lively interactive format encouraging discussion and using a Tweet Wall.
