The 2013 Malaria Gordon Research Conference in Tuscany, Italy will bring together leading international scientists from diverse disciplines to focus on the "Molecular and Cell Biology of Malaria". The Conference will present the most recent advances on the molecular and cellular aspects of the malaria parasite’s basic biology, immunology, host-parasite-vector interactions and pathogenic mechanisms. The meeting will provide a stimulating forum to discuss cutting edge fundamental and applied research on malaria, with an emphasis on programs that contribute to the development of vaccines and drugs. This Malaria GRC is designed to be a highly interactive meeting that will provide a comprehensive overview of modern molecular malaria research. Invited speakers will be strongly encouraged to present unpublished results and will represent a variety of scientific disciplines, including biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, vaccine research, molecular genetics, structural, cell and systems biology. The format of the meeting will include extensive discussions after each presentation to be led by investigators who are at the forefront of their field. Most recent scientific advances will also be featured through the use of poster sessions and talks selected from submitted abstracts. The Conference will make special efforts to encourage participation by researchers from malaria endemic countries. This meeting offers an excellent opportunity to keep abreast of the most recent developments in both basic and applied research on malaria, and the potential for novel innovations to combat this disease worldwide.
