he International Society on Acoustic Emission (ISAE) was founded during the World Conference on Acoustic Emission-2011 (WCAE-2011), successfully held in Beijing on August 24-26, 2011, with a total of 136 delegates from 19 countries. An interim governing body was elected to the establishment of the World Congress on Acoustic Emission, but later changed to the International Society on Acoustic Emission (ISAE) with Mr. Allen Green (USA) and Dr. Gongtian Shen (China) being the Honorary President and the Interim President of ISAE. The nomination of six temporary Vice-Presidents of different countries was passed by the majority of the delegates; they are Manabu Enoki (Japan), Oswaldo Goncalves dos Santos Filho (Brazil), Karen M Holford (UK), Oh-Yang Kwon (Korea), Andy Tan (Australia) and Peter Tscheliesnig (Austria). The elected Interim General Secretary is Bangxian Li (China), and the Interim Associate General Secretaries are Cherdpong Jomdecha (Thailand), Boris Muravin (Israel) and Gary Qi (USA). The World Conference on Acoustic Emission (WCAE) is adopted as the official scientific and technical conference of ISAE, and is held once every two years. The office of ISAE is funded by the Chinese Society for Non-destructive Testing (ChSNDT) and the China Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute (CSEI). ISAE is established exclusively for the purposes of promoting scientific, technical and educational exchanges worldwide, primarily in the following activities: 1. Advancing acoustic emission technology through timely exchange of technical information. 2. Defining and promoting standardized terminology in acoustic emission documentation. 3. Organizing informal workshops and meetings. 4. Promoting and/or organizing symposia-type technical sessions on acoustic emission technology. 5. Establishing technical interchange with other interest groups in acoustic emission technology and its applications. ISAE membership is open to all AE practitioners and researchers. Members of the ISAE shall have at least one of the following qualifications: 1. Activities which require close contact with research, development, testing, or applications of acoustic emission methods or systems. 2. Extensive practical experience with the application and development of acoustic emission technology. 3. Educational background in the field of acoustic emission techniques. ISAE welcomes worldwide participations of AE practitioners and researchers in any constructive form.
