We are excited to announce that our China-Chile Workshop for the Star Formation and Radio Astronomy Instrumentation 2013 will be held in Beijing, China from July 1st to 4th. This meeting will provide a unique opportunity for broadening the research collaboration between the astronomical communities in China and Chile on the frontiers of radio astronomy, especially the star formation and the instrument development.
Chile has unique advantages in today’s astronomical research for providing the best conditions for astronomical observations and hosting most of the advanced astronomical instruments. Chile has shares in some of the most advanced instruments including the ALMA. China has started major efforts in constructing the next generation world-class radio telescopes, including the FAST, South-Pole projects, and the Shanghai 65 meter radio telescope. The collaboration between China and Chile will greatly advance the astronomical research of the two countries. China-Chile Joint Center for Astronomy has been officially established this February in Beijing, and its center in Chile will be in operation during the summer of 2013.
The two major topics for this symposium are (1) star formation and (2) the development in instrumentation. The topics are essential for the China-Chile collaboration. The newly inaugurated ALMA and other instruments in Chile will provide us unprecedented opportunity to push forward the frontiers in astrophysical research.
