GCP572 and China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) invite you to the World Summit on Permian-Triassic Mass Extinction & Extreme Climate Change in Wuhan, China, a beautiful city in central China. The Summit will consist of a three-day symposium and will be complemented by one field excursion before and after the Summit, respectively to examine excellent marine to non-marine Permian–Triassic boundary sections, marine Lower-Middle Triassic successions and other major well-recorded events (i.e., Snowball Earth event, O/S mass extinction, G/L mass extinction) in South China.
The symposium will consist of presentations and posters that summarize main results that IGCP572 members have obtained and focus on the causes and consequences of Permian–Triassic events and ecosystem recovery, as well as extreme climatic changes during the Permian and Triassic critical periods. Field excursions include: a four-day excursion before the Summit to the classic long section recording the Ediacaran-Jurassic period of earth history in the beautiful Three Georges area, western Hubei Province; a five-day excursion after the Summit to the western Guizhou and eastern Yunnan areas to examine ecosystem’s collapse and rebuilding from sea to land, including three well-known marine reptile fossillagerstätten.
