The main goal of the 2013 GRC on Chemistry Education Research and Practice conference is to draw attention to the different types of scholarship and their roles in advancing the field of chemistry education. Presentations will exemplify a variety of scholarship including the scholarships of integration, application, and outreach in addition to cutting-edge scholarly work in teaching and discovery. A unique characteristic of this conference is the emphasis on how investigators may inform practice and how practitioners may promote research. Speakers will highlight contributions from a variety of academic fields as well as different venues available to transform and augment knowledge in chemistry education.
Gordon Conferences have a specific format with the entire audience participating in all aspects of the conference. The GRC on Chemistry Education Research and Practice includes morning and evening technical sessions, in-depth group discussions following each presentation, free afternoons to promote audience-generated activities, structured poster sessions conducted within a social assembly to promote professional networking, and common mealtimes, residence, and special social events to promote fraternization. An off-the-record policy applies to all presentations giving participants risk-free opportunities to present unpublished work.
This conference is the ideal forum for the small number of participants (<160) to interact intensely, maximizing the opportunities to start robust professional connections. The atmosphere of the conference is very different from any other conference, as the advancement of intellectual inquiry happens in an intimate, relaxed, and respectful fashion. All participants are expected to remain at the conference for its entirety.
We look forward to seeing you in Salve Regina during June 9-14, 2013!
