If not, don’t worry–they are just fancy ways of saying ion-ion or ion-electron reactions. For students who are entering the field of mass spectrometry and researchers who mostly use CID/CAD to bombard their molecules, you will find in this conference an associated training course on enchanting world of gas-phase reactions, encompassing theories, experiments, instrumentation and applications. We warn you that you will be exposed to the charms of fundamental research throughout the conference. When you come out of it, ExDs will roll off your tongue like hello. The annual UppCon meetings are unique.This international conference brings fundamentals of mass spectrometry and proteomics into one room—no parallel sessions to divide them, so everyone listens to everyone else for an exchange of knowledge and ideas, sometimes forcing one to think outside the box.In this intimate meeting, everyone can easily talk to everyone else.For example,a student can walk up to a professor and ask questions. UppCon rotates among North America, Europe, and Asia. This is the first time for UppCon to be held in Mainland China.So, for students and especially Chinese students, it is a great opportunity of learning from the best scientists from all over the world and getting to know the cutting-edge research in fundamental and application mass spectrometry.The training course with a hands-on session is carefully designed with Chinese students in mind. It is the first time that a biologist and an informatician, both with zero training in fundamentals, become the organizers of UppCon.It becomes so because we believe that doing is the best way of learning, and if that is not an option, hosting the conference! Both organizers work in the field of proteomics, which blends boundaries.
