As physical manifestations - in size, structure, molecular composition, and function - of the boundary between chemistry and biology, viruses receive ever-increasing attention in fundamental science and applied technology. The Physical Virology GRC covers viruses as paradigms for nanoscale self-assembly, genomic packaging and delivery, materials development, and interactions among biological systems. These fields are investigated by mathematicians, physicists, chemists, material scientists, and biologists, providing outstanding opportunities but also challenges in communication between disciplines. The goal of this conference is to bring together leading scientists and young investigators with the molecular, theoretical, materials-oriented, and biological perspectives that are rapidly shaping the study and use of virus-based and virus-inspired functional systems. Invited talks will be interspersed with talks selected from the poster submissions of registered participants. To be considered for one of these talks, please be sure to apply and submit an abstract before October 15, 2012. Please check back periodically for additional information. Note also that a Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) for young investigators interested and active in the field will be held immediately prior to the GRC; students and postdocs are encouraged to apply to this as well.
