活动简介
The rapid progress in nanoscience and nanotechnology has made optics on the nanometer scale an attractive field. The local interaction of light with matter has provided a unique tool to study optical, structural and dynamic properties of matter, and is of great importance to the research of solid-state, chemical, and biological nano-structures. Near-field optics and nano-optics in general deal with the issues of optics on the nanometer scale which pertains to both technological and fundamental research.
Near-field optics and nano-photonics are currently the fields of pioneering research and applications that utilize novel phenomena and functions inherent in optical near-fields of nanometer scale including those of nonlinear, quantum mechanical nature and the role of surface plasmons in optical phenomena etc. One of the promising products is nanophotonic or nano-optoelectronic device with reduced size and minimal power consumption in forthcoming communication, data processing, and data storage systems of ultra-high speed operation and ultra-high density integration. Further synthetic research of the optical near-fields phenomena and related techniques are now required for the developments of these fields.
After the successful Asia-Pacific Workshops on Near-field Optics held in Seoul, Beijing, Melbourne, Taroko, Niigata, respectively, at 1996, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005, the 6th Asia-Pacific Workshop on Near-Field Optics will be held in June 2007 in Yellow Mountain, Anhui Province, China. Following the tradition of the APNFO workshops, the APNFO-6 will provide great opportunities for information exchange and sharing, so that researchers can bring their ideas, results, and problems for open discussion, hence to promote new advancement and explore the science and technologies potential. We will invite leading experts in the field of near-field optics and anticipate active participation of students and young researchers with their poster presentations and short talks.
