Experimental study is conducted to explore the influences of structural parameters on the flow and noise characteristics of a contra-rotating cooling fan. Firstly, noise characteristics experiments are performed under different rotational speeds, and the spectra of which are compared and analyzed in the following. And then, the influences of structural parameters including the hub ratio, the ratio of rotational speeds for two rotors, the air deflector and the stagger angle on the noise characteristics are analyzed to obtain the critical parameters. Apart from this, the influences of the different motor brackets for the rotors on the fan noise are also studied in the paper. In addition, shrouded and unshrouded impellers are applied in the experiments.
