SERVERAL APPLICATIONS OF OPTIMIZED WENO SCHEMES IN SCALE-RESOLVING SIMULATION OF COMPLEX COMPRESSIBLE TURBULENCE

The high-order numerical scheme can be used in scale-resolving simulation such as direct numerical simulation (DNS), large-eddy simulation (LES) and detached-eddy simulation (DES) to resolve the details of the turbulent flow and reveal the mechanis ms inside them. However, the flow characteristics of the compressible turbulence bring up great challenges for the design of the numerical schemes. Although there exist many well-designed numerical schemes, only a few of them are suitable for the scale-resolving simulation of compressible turbulence.
The scepticism about WENO schemes in the simulation of turbulent flows has existed for a long time
because of the poor resolution and excessive dissipation of the original W ENO.Recently, some W ENO schemes have been employed in the simulation of the compressible turbulence.In this paper, the aim of this paper is to assess the performance of the optimized W ENO s chemes in rescale-resolving simulation of compressible turbulence. The WENO-SYMBO[1] and WENO-OS4[2] schemes have been employed in the assessment.The results indicate that the WENO schemes can be used in the simulation of turbulent flows after some optimizations have been employed in the construction of WENO schemes
